After discussions with industry experts, we now believe it is essential to offer a web-based interactive software tool as an integral part of the PDP. The aim of the software is to provide a keel optimisation package that removes the principal difficulty in loop keel design, namely the selection of the correct chord distributions around the loop keel. Correct chord selection is essential to give the best performance over a range of sailing conditions.

Current CFD software is a powerful tool for analysing specific designs, such as validating an optimised loop keel, but it is not set up to perform the particular optimisation required for this design problem. As a result, we have decided to incorporate this customized, web-based software in our PDP and are aiming to release our first version of the combined package in September 2007.
